RRTC held our award assembly last week. Cameron university awarded $1000 tuition fee waivers to Alex Hernandez, Corey Ralls, Raylee White, Jessica Hernandez, and Malachi Dodson. The Rodney J. Love Scholarships in the amount of $250 were awarded to Paige Hemmingway, Savannah Stone, Carter Oyster, and Destiny Martinez. The Lions Club Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 were awarded to Caleb Carson and Landry Hinsley. EMJO Operartions, Inc. awarded continued education scholarships to Alex Hernandez and Caleb Carson in the amount of $2500. Congratulations to all the recipients!

The Jerry Morris Scholarship is given in memory of Mr. Jerry Morris, former Superintendent of Red River Technology Center. His family donated money to be used to help adult students in their journey to becoming a nurse. This scholarship has been given for many years and has impacted many students. The recipients are Autumn Jackson, Chloe Denton, Shawna Guffey, Robin Anderson, and Simone DeThomas.

Mr. Lillard was a patron of the Duncan Community and supported Red River Technology Center training. At the time of his death he wanted to donate monies that would be used to help an adult student. The scholarship is awarded through the Oklahoma Communities Foundation. The recipients are Angela Ervin, Chloe Denton, Shawna Duffey, and Simone DeThomas.

RRTC’s Cosmetology students attended SkillsUSA state competition this week. Dannial Crispin placed first in Barbering. Dannial, also, received the Breaking Traditions Award. The award was given by the Oklahoma Career and Technical Education Equity Council. Criteria for winning the award included: the student must be training in a career considered non-traditional for their gender and be outstanding in his/her training area. Job Exhibit winners were Kaylee Boyce, Fantasy Makeup-Gold Medal, Jillian Evans, Long Hair Design, Gold Medal, Haley Ledford-Day/Night Makeup-Silver Medal, and Angela Halliburton-Short Hair Design-Silver Medal.
